AIOU Central Library to remain open on weekends too

The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Central Library will remain open throughout the week, including Saturdays and Sundays, to provide book-reading facility to students.

From this month, the facility will be available even on weekly holidays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to an announcement here on Wednesday. The timing of the library on working days has also been extended till 7 p.m. to facilitate students.

According to the in-charge of the library, Muhammad Umar, the vice chancellor took the decision on the demand of students. There was tremendous increase in the number of students visiting the library, particularly for doing their research work. The library is fully equipped, having a friendly environment.

A special desk has also been established in the library to provide information about the admissions (spring 2016), which are open till March 4. There is a rich collection of books, with digital online facility and students can take benefit of it.

AIOU Vice Chancellor Dr. Shahid Sididiqui recently took some new initiatives to promote online library culture for dissemination of knowledge to maximum number of people.

The data of books in the library has made operational through advanced software system. There is automatic system for circulation of books among readers, with radio frequency identification system for the books' safety.
