ISLAMABAD: The government has released over Rs456 billion under its Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2017-18 for various ongoing and new schemes against the total allocations of Rs1,001 billion.
The released funds include Rs110.24 billion for federal ministries and Rs33.141 billion for special areas, according to the latest data released by Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform on Wednesday.
Out of these allocations, the government has released Rs202.8 billion for the National Highway Authority (NHA) for which Rs326.25 billion have been allocated for 2017-18, whereas Rs23.9 billion were released to WAPDA (Power) out of its allowed budget of Rs64.9 billion for this fiscal year.
The government also released Rs5.276 billion to its Communication Division (other than NHA) which has a total share of Rs21.6 billion under the PSDP 2017-18. Railways Division received Rs15.247 billion out of its total allocation of Rs42.9 billion, whereas Aviation Division received Rs1.87 billion out of its total allocation of Rs4.348 billion.
An amount of Rs11.628 billion has also been released for various development projects of Higher Education Commission from its total allowance of Rs35.662 billion, while Rs3.99 billion have been released for the Atomic Energy Commission.
Water and Power Division (water sector) received Rs13.18 billion out of Rs36.75 billion under PSDP 2017-18. The government also released Rs8.1 billion for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Division, for which an amount of Rs48.701 billion was allocated in the federal PSDP budget, while Rs201 million was released for Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority out of its total share of Rs321.53 million.
Finance Division received Rs10.02 billion from its total allocations of Rs25.051 billion and the Climate Change Division received Rs326 million out of Rs815 million for the current year.
Similarly, Petroleum and Natural Resource Division has received Rs10.7 billion out of its Rs13.4 billion allocation; Planning, Development and Reform Division has received Rs1.832 billion out of its Rs 10.4 billion allocation, and SUPARCO has been provided with Rs1 billion out of its allocations of Rs3.5 billion.
The government has released Rs6.9 billion for Housing and Works division, while Rs80 million for Human Rights Division, and Rs400 million for National Food Security and Research Division have also been released out of the PSDP.
The government released Rs14.8 billion for AJK out of its Rs25.844 billion allowance, Rs7.7 billion for Gilgit-Baltistan out of Rs18.3 billion allowance, whereas Rs10.6 billion have been released for SAFRON/FATA out of its total allocations of Rs26.90 billion for FY18.
The government also released Rs30 billion for Prime Minister’s Global SDGS Achievement Programme whereas Rs3.15 billion have been released for ERRA out of its total allocations of Rs7.5 billion.
Prime Minister’s Youth Hunarmand Programme received Rs10.8 billion out of Rs20 billion allowance, according to the data.
The Planning Commission of Pakistan has been following a mechanism for the release of funds. The commission releases 20 percent of funds in the first quarter (July-September), 20 percent in the second quarter (October-December), 25 percent in the third quarter (January-March) and 35 percent funds are released in the fourth quarter (April-June).
