HANGU: A newly elected Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Farid Khan was gunned down here on Monday, police said.
According to the police, the incident took place when unidentified assailants opened fire at the car of the MPA, resultantly Farid Khan lost his life while his driver and guard sustained injuries.
Following the killing of Farid, angry protestors took to the streets and damaged several shops in Hangu Bazaar.
Slain Farid Khan was elected from PK-42 Hungu as an independent candidate and later joined Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI).
Farid Khan joined the ruling PTI before taking oath as member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. “I consulted my voters before joining the PTI,” he said.
The MPA had claimed that he had Rs 100 only in his pocket at the time of filing nomination papers and his supporters ran his election campaign.
