LANDIKOTAL: The Frontier Corps (FC) soldiers arrested five ‘fake’ journalists and put them under investigation for taking snaps in the prohibited areas along the Pak-Afghan border, official sources said on Monday.
An official told this scribe on condition of anonymity that five fake journalists identified as Muhammad Suleman and Saeedur Rehman from Peshawar, Khalilur Rehman and Shah Faisal of Landikotal and Khairul Amin of Mardan came to Khyber Agency without seekinh prior permission to go to the area bordering Afghanistan.
He said the team of five entered the ‘zero point’ area at Torkham border to take still photos and carry out video filming in the prohibited area. The FC personnel arrested them along with their cameras.
Those nabbed who claimed to be journalists of Niamat Television Channel in Peshawar, were asked to prove their affiliation with any media outlets, but they failed to do so.After preliminary investigation, the official said, the fake journalists were handed over to the Landikotal administration for further probe into the case.The Peshawar Press Club also appreciated the forces’ action. It said said the arrested people were neither members of Peshawar Press Club nor worked for any media organisation.
