RIS organises IBDP orientation

Roots International Schools, an IB World School, conducted International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) orientation and counselling seminar at RIS Wellington Campus, H-8. The purpose of the orientation was to create awareness among parents and students about IBDP.
IBDP Coordinator Kulsoom Tanvir briefed the attendees of the orientation session, about the programme and counselled the students according to their skills and aspirations. The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
RIS CEO Walid Mushtaq said that, “Whole spectrum of life is important to succeed and opportunities knock on your door only once. The wider and larger role that we need to play is building character and nourishing minds beside the academic skills, and this is what IBDP is about. ” Mr. Walid encouraged students to develop skills with the changing times take advantage of the opportunities given to them.
Students of IBDP programme shared their experiences and why one should opt for this programme. Ms. Marriam, an IBDP Alumnus said, “Choosing IBDP was the best decision I made in my career and it definitely groomed and transformed me into an informed individual.
The IB philosophy is to foster tolerance and inter-cultural understanding among young people through a specific method of teaching which incorporates critical thinking, problem solving, and exposure to a variety of viewpoints.
Founded in 1968, the IB currently works with 3,859 schools in 148 countries to develop and offer four challenging programmes to over 1,212,000 students aged 3 to 19 years. Roots International Schools begin as IB PYP Candidate School in August 2014. The Primary Years Programme is there to prepare students to be active participants in a lifelong journey of learning. The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. It is defined by six trans-disciplinary themes of global significance, explored using knowledge and skills derived from six subject areas, with a powerful emphasis on inquiry-based learning.
