Rs139m released for Multan

The Punjab government has released the first installation of fund amounting Rs.139 million to launch sustainable social, economic and environmental revitalisation in the historic Multan city which has been envisaged by Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif with a total cost of Rs.251 million. Under this project, restoration of Haram Gate Multan and Haram Gate adjoining area, renovation of Musafir Khana Darbar Musa Pak Shaheed and beautification of 85-meter portion of one kilometer long Sarafa Bazaar will be completed with the international consultancy including technical assistance from Italy, Walled–City Lahore Authority, Infrastructure Design and Management Group and other development agencies including PTCL, Wapda and Wasa Multan.
This was disclosed at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Adviser to Chief Minister for Prisons Ch. Arshad Saeed. The meeting was attended by Secretary Local Government and Rural Development Punjab Khalid Masood Chaudhary and other relevant senior officers. The meeting was told that Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has constituted a steering committee to monitor the Haram Gate and Musafir Khana revitalisation project. Ch. Arshad Saeed has been nominated as chairman of the steering committee while Haji Ehsanuddin Qureshi MPA will be its member and Secretary LG&CD, Secretary P&D, Commissioner Multan, DG Walled City of Lahore Authority and DCO Multan in the capacity of Project Director Walled City Project Multan are the ex-officio members of the steering committee. The chairman directed the concerned officers to ensure that this project would be completed in any case before the next financial year preferably within six months. For this purpose, the steering committee constituted a recruitment sub-committee to recruit technical staff which will ensure the structural stability with retaining the historical look of the area and utilisation of maximum traditional material.
