Flood relief efforts reviewed

Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) Director, Brig (r) Dr Arshad Zia, while appreciating the efforts of Rescue 1122 team during recent floods, said that Rescue teams evacuated some 97,587 flood affectees from 12 flood prone districts of Punjab during recent floods.He expressed these views while presiding over a post-flood review meeting at Rescue 1122 Headquarters held on Tuesday. The District Emergency Officers, including Dr Natiq Hayat (DG Khan), Dr Muhammad Aslam (Rajanpur), Dr Tasleem (Layyah), Dr Irshad-ul-Haq (Muzaffargarh), Dr Abdul Sattar (Rahimyar Khan), Dr Kaleemullah (Multan), Dr Sajjad Ahmad (Kasur), Engr Adnan Nawaz (Mianwali), Dr Nayyar Alam (Khushab), Dr Farzand Ali (Vehari), Zaffar Iqbal (Okara) and Dr Tahir Mehmood (Pakpattan) presented their performance reports and shared the efforts of rescuers and challenges they confronted during relief efforts.
The meeting was attended by Provincial Monitoring Officer Dr Farhan Khalid, Regional Emergency Officers (North & South) Mian Riffat Zia and Dr Zaffar Shah, DD (P&D) Faheem Qureshi, DD (Finance) Naeem Mukhtar, Ayaz Aslam, Head of Operations, Naeem Murtaza, Incharge PMC and others.
The director was informed by the PMC that Rescue 1122 saved some 97,587 flood affectees, including 26,885 from Layyah, 24,440 from Kasur, 13,682 from Rajanpur, 11,885 from Muzaffargarh, 9,407 from Rahimyar Khan, 1,285 from Mianwali, 7,049 from DG Khan, 1,376 from Multan, 858 from Khushab, 446 from Okara, 120 from Pakpattan and 154 from Vehari. The director was informed that by adopting proactive approach all districts in collaboration with the district administrations had prepared coordinated plans, pre-flood mock exercises were conducted and during floods, all resources including rescue boats, life jackets, community emergency response teams and other necessary resources were mobilised in flood-hit districts. "Due to timely response and comprehensive strategy, the district emergency services of flood-prone districts rescued 97,587 affectees.
