A 12-year-boy went missing on Saturday was found hanged to death in Hadiara police limits on Monday.
Victim Bilal’s father Salim of Govind Pind told the police that his son had gone to his aunt’s home, who had asked him to go to a hotel for food for her. He left the home and did not return, he added.
Later, his cousin while grazing cattle spotted Bilal hanging with a wire near a trench. He went home and told his aunt, who, along with other people, went to the scene and found the victim hanging to death.
Police reached the spot and removed the body to morgue for autopsy.
Salim said he had no enmity and ruled out any sexual assault. He appealed to the higher authorities for justice. Police have registered a case.
CROSSFIRE: It was crossfire between two men which killed a 30-year-old man and injured two passersby including a child in Shahdara police limits in the wee hours of Monday. Police registered an FIR on the complaint of SI Afzal. The victim was not identified yet. The injured were identified as Inam, 9, son of Amir Hussain, and Ibrar, son of Waheed Murad. Locals told reporters that the victims were on their when near Sui Gas Chowk two people started firing at each other. As a result, one of them was killed while two passersby were injured. Police reached the spot and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital. A police officer said the incident was a result of crossfire. He said the police were investigating the matter.
RESCUED: Director (Admin) Dr Arshad Zia while chairing a meeting of rescue officers at Rescue 1122 Headquarters carried out a performance review of emergency operations in all 36 districts of Punjab to ensure Uniform Standard of Service and smooth emergency services delivery. The emergency data showed 81,296 victims of different emergencies were rescued by Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) while conducting 54,770 rescue operations in July Punjab with average response time of 07 minutes. The meeting was attended by Deputy Director (HR) Dr Foaad Shahzad Mirza, DD (P&D) Fahim Qureshi, DD (Finance) Naeem Mukhtar, DD (Operations) Ayaz Aslam and other senior officers.
The emergency calls to which Rescue 1122 responded to include 2,0571 road accidents, 24197 medical emergencies, 728 fire incidents, 2140 crimes, 180 drowning incidents, 114 building collapses, 11 explosions and 6829 miscellaneous operations. According to the statistics, out of total fires, 248 fire incidents took place in Lahore, 77 in Faisalabad, 47 in Gujranwala, 47 in Rawalpindi, 47 in Multan and 28 in Sialkot. Out of total traffic accidents, some 4,186 traffic accidents were reported in Lahore, 2091 in Faisalabad, 1415 in Gujranwala, 1198 in Multan and 898 in Rawalpindi, where implementation of traffic laws is strictly required.
The Provincial Monitoring Cell informed the director wheelie was again rising up in different areas of the Punjab.
Dr Arshad Zia directed the District Emergency Officers (DEOs) to enhance activities pertaining to creating awareness among community members regarding emergencies. He directed them to focus on prevention side because most of emergencies could be prevented by proper implementation of road safety laws, building bye-laws and by ensuring life safety codes.
Fire: Valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees were burnt when a fire broke out in a house due to short circuit in Baghbanpura police limits. Rescue 1122 reached the spot and extinguished the fire. No loss of life or injury was reported in the incident.
