LAHORE RELIGIOUS leaders have warned the government of a tough agitation movement if it did not withdraw the legislation aimed at secularising the society by restricting religious leaders and seminaries, and banning Islamic practices like Durood-o-Salam in prayers call. They stressed for calling the OIC summit for resolving disputes among the Muslim countries, especially the crisis in Yemen that caused Saudi-led coalition to attack the rebels and the situation was pushing for a wider war in the Gulf. They were addressing the ‘Nizam-e-Mustafa Convention’ at Aiwan-e-Iqbal Sunday under the aegis of Jamiat Ulema Pakistan (JUP) which was chaired by JUP President Pir Ijaz Hashmi while prominent speakers included party secretary general Shah Awais Noorani, Qari Zawwar Bahadur, Mufti Ibrahim, Mufti Abdul Haleem Hazarvi, Dr Khadim Hussain Rizvi, Dr Ashraf Asif Jalali, Irfan Mashhadi, Dr Javed Awan, Abdul Majeed Jatak, Dr Javed Akhtar, Rasheed Rizvi, Allama Noor Ahmad Sial, Mufti Tasadduq Hussain, Hafiz Naseer Noorani and Bashir Ahmad Nizami. They demanded for the enforcement of Nizam-e-Mustafa in the country in the shape of Islamic laws in place of secular laws imposed by the British colonists. They vowed to continue the mission of elders like Maulana Shah Ahmad Noorani, Qamaruddin Sialvi, Maulana Abdul Sattar Naizi etc. to counter the secular elements undermining the Islamic ideology of the country until reaching the destination of Nizam-e-Mustafa. A joint communiqué issued at the convention called for the continuity of democracy in the country, purging it of corrupt elements, terrorism and nepotism, halting victimisation of Islamist leaders, seminaries and mosques under misuse of Amplifier Act, patronising the farmer community by reducing input costs and patronising the cultivation to boost economy. The communiqué expressed concern over Yemen-Saudia crisis, terming it a plot against Muslims and holy places, called for OIC meeting to resolve the tension between Yemen and Saudi Arabia. It expressed complete resolve by the Pakistani nation and Muslims for not hesitating to offer every sacrifice for the sake of protecting the Harmain Sharifain. Expressing complete backing to operation Zarb-e-Azb, it demanded annexation of Fata areas in KP and immediate return of refugees from those areas where operation was completed, besides taking concrete measures for eliminating illiteracy, poverty, and backwardness. It praised Pak-China friendship, and welcomed the visit of Chinese president, expressing hope that it would boost the already strong friendship between the two countries. Addressing the convention, Shah Awais Noorani said Karachi operation must be conducted indiscriminately. Qari Zawwar Bahadur demanded the government to call OIC meeting for resolving outstanding issues between Muslim countries.
