67 awarded degrees at KGMC convocation

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan Saturday lauded the commencement of postgraduate and MPhil programmes and establishment of Central Research Laboratory at the Khyber Girls Medical College (KGMC) under the supervision of the Khyber Medical University.
Addressing medical graduates, their parents and faculty members at the 2nd convocation of KGMC, he said the initiatives would promote innovations in advanced biomedical research in the field of medical education.
The function was also attended by Vice-Chancellor of Khyber Medical University Dr Hafizullah, Registrar Dr Fazle Mabood, Principal of Khyber Girls Medical College, Dr Abid Hussain, principals of all the KMU recognized medical colleges and MPA and former health minister Shaukat Yousafzai.
Some 67 graduates were awarded MBBS degrees at the convocation. Around 23 students got gold medals.
A student Munazza Ayub got eight gold medals and was declared the best student of the year. The governor said it was a matter of great pleasure and satisfaction that within a short period the Khyber Girls College had set traditions of excellence, self-confidence and competence among its students.
He said though it was a nascent medical institute, it would prove itself to be one of the best centres of learning in health sciences.
The governor said that increase in the number of seats in the KGMC from 50 to 100, developing module based integrated curriculum and adoption of the latest teaching methodologies i.e. problem based learning (PBL) were appreciable steps taken by the institution. He said the issues of restoration of admission quota for the children of the teaching and non-teaching staff and establishment of residential colony for the staff of KGMC would be taken up with the provincial government.
