Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will hold a national conference on Physics and Emerging Sciences on Monday.
It will be a two-day event, in which around 200 senior academicians and relevant experts from all over the country will participate to share their knowledge, interact and build bilateral cooperation. It will be third conference, being organized by the Department of Physics as annual feature.
Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal is likely to inaugurate the conference, to be presided over by the Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Shahid Siddiqui. AIOU is holding series of events to promote education of science and technology as well as other re-search-based activities.
The university will soon launch a four-year degree program of bachelor sciences with physics, mathematics or statistics as a major subject; this was announced by Dr. Shahid Siddiqui while addressing a training workshop on professional development.
He also announced to give cash prizes to best researchers, besides other incentives for undertaking applied research that helps to address socio-economic problems of the country as well as improving quality of life.
A package of incentives has been finalized to encourage its academicians to focus on research-based activities that benefits the society.
IIU reopens its I-10 entrance: The International Islamic University Islamabad has reopened the I-10 entrance to the H-10 campus for providing relief to students, who had to take a long detour to enter the premises. There are three entryways to the campus, one from H-11 Police Lines, second from the Kashmir Highway and third from I-10.
However, after the massacre of schoolchildren in Peshawar by militants last month, the university closed the I-10 gate for security reasons stressing out students, especially girls. Thereafter, students made requests to the administration and even staged protests. Now, the administration has decided to reopen the I-10 entrance to the H-10 campus.
However, it will be opened only twice a day i.e. first from 7a.m. to 10 a.m. and later from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. The students, especially girls, welcomed the move, saying it will be relief for them from physical, mental and financial stress earlier caused by closure of the I-10 gate.
