HIGHER Education Commission Pakistan will introduce the British Council’s Active Citizen Programme (ACP) in 42 universities of Pakistan and in the coming years all universities will be implementing the ACP in the curriculum as a mandatory course for undergraduates as it is being adopted in Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) Lahore.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday, this was announced by Chairman Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed while addressing as a chief guest in a ceremony organised jointly by the British Council and LCWU. Dr. Mukhtar appreciated LCWU’s effort in making possible the ACP and announced HEC’s launch of Social Enterprise Resource Centre in Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) this year for the students to enhance their Social Entrepreneurship skills to enable them to provide sustainable income resource generation within the local communities with which they engage.
Directorate of Faculty Development and Internationalisation (DFDI) of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) successfully completed the 2nd phase of Active Citizen Programme Year 2013-14. To celebrate the occasion Showcasing of Social Action Projects and Certificate distribution ceremony was organised at a local hotel. Asia, Shazia Khawar-Regional Director Society, Peter Upton-Director Pakistan British Council, Kevin McLaven-Director Punjab, British Council, were the delegates to attend the ceremony.
Prof Dr Sabiha Mansoor, Vice-Chancellor LCWU in her address, stated the community engagement was one of the pillars of the vision of LCWU and the British Council’s support in introducing the ACP at LCWU as a pilot programme was a welcome initiative which was making a change in the personality development if not only thousands of girls were studying at LCWU, but would also impact their households and communities positively, thereby causing positive change across the country. The VC explained that the mission of the Active Citizens Programme in LCWU was to encourage the young females to be socially responsible by developing and delivering sustainable projects on themes such as education, social issues, poverty, information technology, environment, health and hygiene. The ACP also aims to facilitate the young souls to visualise the mental picture of a world in which increasing connections of youth in communities lead to positive outcomes, resulting in a world where people feel empowered to engage peacefully and effectively with others in the sustainable development of communities.
