LAHORE
Punjab Rangers foiled an attempt to smuggle Indian liquor and killed two smugglers and recovered 48 bottles of liquor near the Wagah border on Monday.
The smugglers were identified as Kashi, son of Amir and Sarfaraz, son of Nazeer. Jawans of Punjab Rangers observed some suspicious movement on the Indian side of the border at night. When they challenged the suspects and asked them to surrender, they abandoned their belongings and started fleeing to the Indian side. When the officials of Punjab Rangers followed them, they started firing. Punjab Rangers also retaliated. As a result, two smugglers were killed. Punjab Rangers found 48 bottles of Indian liquor on search. A case has been registered in the local police station. Further investigations are underway.
women injured: Two women received burnt injuries when a fire erupted in a house due to short-circuit near Lahore General Hospital on Monday.
Rescue teams reached the place on information. They rushed the victims to a local hospital and extinguished the fire. The victims were identified as Shakeela and Shazia. Furniture and other valuables in the house were also burnt. However, no loss of life was reported in the incident.
murder: Sherakot police Monday failed to find any clue to the murderers of a 40-year-old man. The police registered a case against unidentified people on the complaint of Javaid, brother of victim Zafarullah.
In charge Investigation of Sherakot police Sheikh Akmal said the were investigating the matter, adding it was a blind murder as no one even the man, Atta, riding with the victim could not see the attackers.
Zafarullah of Okara was shot dead in Sherakot police limits. He was a truck driver and the father of five children.
CTO: Chief Traffic Officer (CTO), Tayyab Hafiz Cheema, visited the Police Lines, Thokar Niaz Beg, and reviewed the security measures on Monday.
SP Headquarters, Rana Shujat, SP Sadar, DSP Headquarters, DSP Licensing, IR Lines and other officers, were also present. The CTO asked to improve the patrolling around the police lines besides building a wall. He asked to spray the police lines regularly to eliminate the dengue. He further directed that arrangements of seating and clean water for citizens should be made who came there to learn driving.
He appealed citizens to cooperate with the police during checking.
petrol: Deputy Inspector General of Police Dr Haider Ashraf has directed all the divisional SPs to take stern action against petrol-pump owners who are selling petrol in black.
He also directed all the divisional SPs to visit the petrol pumps and make sure a peaceful selling of petrol. He also directed the police officers to provide security to every tanker. The DIG also appealed to the public for complete cooperation with the police.
