Security measures for Chehlum, LB polls reviewed

A meeting to discuss security issues related to the Chehlum of Imam Hussain (RA), to be observed on Thursday, and the upcoming local bodies polls, due this coming Saturday, was held at the Rangers headquarters on Monday.
As per the plan chalked out in the meeting, Rangers personnel would not only man the Chehlum procession but would also be deployed on rooftops of buildings situated along the route of the procession. The route would be sealed a day before the commencement of the procession and was also decided to be swept with the help of sniffer dogs. Helicopters would be used for air surveillance of the main procession.
According to the Rangers spokesman, personnel of all law enforcement and security agencies had been put on high alert for both the days; they were ordered to conduct snap-checking on sensitive locations.
The LEAs also urged religious scholars of different faiths to lend full support in the drive against sectarianism and promote peace.
Presided over by Director General of the Sindh Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar, the meeting was attended by Joint Director General of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), the city police chief, DIGs of all districts, personnel of the Counter Terrorism Department and Traffic police, as well as commissioner Karachi and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s officials.
