‘Sipah-e-Sahaba, MQM target killers’ among 29 held
Rangers nab four suspected terrorists in Neelam Colony raid

Four suspected target killers, two believed to be activists of the banned Sipah-e-Sahaba and the others affiliated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, and four alleged members of a banned outfit were among 29 people arrested by Rangers on Monday
A Rangers spokesperson said SSP activist Zaheer alias Piyala had confessed to murdering police constable Arshad in 2009 near Zameendar Hotel. Besides, he had also admitted that he had killed constable Shahzad near Hyderi Masjid; constable Asif in Petal Wali Gali, Gulbahar; constable Nazim in Nazimabad; and ASI and constable near Annu Bhai Park in Nazimabad in 2012.
Zaheer has been remanded in Rangers’ 90-day preventive detention by an anti-terrorism court.
The spokesperson said Rangers had also arrested SSP activist Babar alias Chingari, who too was involved in the killings of policemen.
‘MQM activists’ held
The paramilitary force rounded up two “MQM activists”, Amir alias Nukta and Haroon alias Kala.
The spokesperson said Amir had confessed to killing three policemen and an intelligence officer.
He had killed DSP (retd) Abdul Shakoor and constable Dilbar in 1995, a constable in 2006 and a Pakistan Navy soldier in 1996. He too has been randed in Rangers preventive detention.
The spokesperson said Haroon had confesses to murdering constable Aftab and had the Rangers had acquired his preventive detention remand from an anti-terrorism court.
Four 'terrorists’ arrested
The spokesperson said the paramilitary force raided a hideout of terrorists in Neelam Colony and arrested four men affiliated with a banned outfit.
The terrorists were also found in possession of weapons.
Separately, the paramilitary force raided hideouts and drug dens in the Old Sabzi Mandi area and arrested 18 suspects. Narcotics, liquor and weapons were found in the raids.
In Korangi and Liaquatabad, the paramilitary force arrested two alleged target killers and an extortionist affiliated with a political party.
Three ‘target killers’ held
The police’s counter terrorism department arrested three suspected target killers in the SITE area.
They were identified as Arif Hussain, Mohammad Irfan Lodhi and Mohammad Ismail. They were found in possession of three 30-bore pistols and two grenades.
During interrogation, the three men told the police that they were members of a gang run by notorious criminal Shahid Bikik on whose instructions they carried out assassinations. They confessed to murdering Haji Mehfooz Elahi in Korangi and Inspector Ghazanfar Kazmi.
