The Sindh chief minister has ordered fair distribution of ‘bardana’ (gunny bags) and transparent procurement of wheat.
“I would not tolerate corruption, favouritism and negligence in the wheat buying process.”
Qaim Ali Shah issued these directives after a report was presented to him on the wheat procurement exercise by provincial Minister for Food Gianchand Israni.
The minister informed the CM that he had suspended three food inspectors in District Umerkot over corruption in distribution of bardana.
Those suspended included In-charge Samaro Inspector Iftikhar, In-charge Ajun Rajar Inspector Allahjurio Mangrio and In-charge Raja Rasti and Qazi Mohsin Pali Centre Inspector Qazi Mohsin Sand.
Qaim told the minister that suspension was not enough and directed for an inquiry against the culprits so that they should be taken to task.
Israni said that distribution of bardana have almost been completed in the province, adding “Now farmers have started bringing wheat to the centres.
The chief minister was informed that wheat centres at Johi, Moro, Naushehroferoze, Mirpurkhas and some other districts have started procurement and the target of procuring 900,000 tons of wheat would be easily achieved.
Qaim directed the minister to keep visiting procurement centres regularly and resolve any grievances being faced by the growers.
The chief minister said the minister should see to it himself whether the farmers were being given money in time or not, adding “I have already given instructions to Sindh Bank to ensure timely payment to growers.”
Qaim Ali Shah, however, appreciated the efforts of the food minister regarding the wheat procurement drive being conducted by the government.
