The Anti-Extremist Cell of Sindh Police’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed on Monday to have caught eight suspected terrorists with a large amount of explosives during a raid in Ittehad Town.
According to Anti-Extremism Cell (AEC) SP Ali Raza, the unit received information regarding the presence of eight suspects, believed to be affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), in Ittehad Town.
He said a police party of the AEC raided the hideout of terrorists and arrested them without any loss of life or injuries to any police personnel.
He said around 50 kilogrammes of explosives, three .222 rifles, 10 hand-made cracker bombs, eight pistols, two motorcycles and a large cache of mixed ammunition was also recovered from the suspects.
SP Ali Raza said the suspects had just arrived from South Waziristan and were planning a major terrorist attack in the city.
However, he refused to share the details of activities and the identities of suspects for security reasons.
He said the suspects were being interrogated about their affiliation, activities and plans and they will be shared when the investigation concludes.

Kidnapper arrested
The Sohrab Goth Police claimed on Monday to have arrested a man involved in the kidnapping of a five-year-old child last month.
He was caught from Noor Mohamamd Goth area with Rs150,000 in his possession.
According to Sohrab Goth DSP Qamar Ahmed, said a five-year old child Ahmed Raza had been kidnapped in New Karachi Industrial Area on February 26 and the kidnappers were demanding Rs3 million for his release. However, after bargaining by the parents, they had agreed to release the child against a sum of Rs1 million.
He said the Sohrab Goth SHO Fasih-uz-Zaman had been working the case and on Monday he received a tip off about the presence of the kidnappers in Noor Goth area.
Subsequently, said DSP Ahmed, a police party raided the area and arrested one of the kidnappers, Ali Sher Burfat, and also recovered Rs150,000 from his possession. He said during initial interrogation, the arrested kidnapper confessed about his involvement in the kidnapping.
DSP Ahmed said Burfat told the police that he had kidnapped the child with three other men, who escaped during the raid. He later released the child after receiving Rs1 million as ransom.
“Burfat’s share of the ransom money was Rs200,000,” he said. “Out of that money the police recovered Rs150,000 from him.”
A number of gangs in the Sohrab Goth area were involved in kidnappings and the Sindh Police with the help of Rangers were working to eliminate them, he added.
