KARACHI: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South Pir Muhammad Shah on Tuesday said all four cops were suspended for harassing and manhandling a married couple at Karachi’s Sea View.
Addressing a press conference the SSP South said all the policemen involved in the manhandling have been suspended and added there is no space for such cops in the police department who misbehave with the people. Three of the policemen are under arrest while raids being conducted for the arrest of fourth one, Shah said.
In a video that has gone viral on the various platforms of the social media the policemen, three of whom were in plain clothes, can be heard asking the couple to show their Nikahnama (marriage certificate). The footage further shows the cops manhandling the woman as she tried to make a video of them. The man can be heard screaming that they are husband and wife but to no avail. It may be recalled that last year in October the Karachi Police Chief Ameer Ali Shaikh had warned that strict action will be taken against officers who harass young couples and ask them for marriage certificates.
According to the CTD spokesman, the two were attempting to enter Punjab from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
