Chief Election Commissioner, District and Sessions Judge (South) Ahmed Saba, on Thursday officially announced the results of the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) elections 2013.


According to the results, Naeemuddin Qureshi has been declared as President by securing 2,270 votes; Muhammad Saeeduz Zaman as Vice President (2,157 votes); Advocate Kashif Haneef as Honrary Secretary (1,441); Muhammad Nisar as Joint Secretary (1,568); Abdul Qadeer Mehar as Treasurer (1,390 votes); and Abdul Waheed Sayyal as Librarian (1,659 votes).


The newly elected 11-member KBA Managing Committee comprises: Fiza Ali (1,380 votes), Dur Muhammad Shah (1,229), Abdul Baqi (1,191), Ishrat Siddiqui (1,137), Hidayyat Ali Leghari (1,020), Muddassar Hussain (1,020), Muhammad Khan (1,000), Mehnaz Ali (1,048), M. Naeem Khan (1,051) Mumtaz Ali (1,048) and Saqib Nawaz (980 votes).


The winning KBA President, Naeem Qureshi, and other office-bearers and members of the governing body were warmly welcomed by the KBA members as well as the losing candidates.


Qureshi thanked the lawyers and announced that he would make every effort for the betterment of the KBA members. Referring to the past role of the lawyers, he said they would continue their struggle for strengthening democratic institutions as well as for the independence of judiciary and forging good relationship between the bar and the bench.
