JICA, SMEDA to support auto-part makers

LAHORE: The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) are going to implement a four-year project for technical support to auto parts manufacturing industry of Pakistan under the guidelines of JICA technical experts.
Yuko Enami, Representative of JICA Pakistan office and Haroonur Rashid Rana, Project Formulation Advisor held a meeting with Muhammad Alamgir Chaudhry, CEO SMEDA on Thursday to discuss the implementation phase of the project.
CEO SMEDA was accompanied by Haroon Ahmed Khan, General Manger, Business and Sector Development Division and the technical team of SMEDA.
Yoko Enami informed that during the proposed four year program, technical support will be extended to 50 Auto Parts manufacturing units of Pakistan through five JICA technical experts. Out of the 50 SMEs, around 10 SMEs would be developed as model factories in the field of productivity & quality, she said. Furthermore, developing support system through capacity building of partner organizations and local experts is prime consideration of the project, keeping in view the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of the relevant fields in consideration, she added. The CEO SMEDA was further informed that two Japanese Productivity Experts namely Hiroshi Kaneki and Hiroshi Sasaki have arrived in Pakistan, whereas other three experts would also join the project in due course of time.
