ISLAMABAD: Highly placed sources claim that Ali Haider Gilani, the abducted son of former Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, is with the al-Qaeda’s Indian Subcontinent section (AQIS) which is demanding Rs2 billion and release of two families of their killed activists in custody of the security forces.
“Ali Haider Gilani is with AIS (AQIS) and they are demanding Rs2 billion and release of families of two of their killed fellow activists,” the source told, The News here on Wednesday.
They claim that ustad Asim Umar, head of AQIS, is personally involved in this case and is reportedly monitoring every development on the issue. Asim Umar is an Indian national from the state of Uttar Pradesh.
He spent most of his time in the Indian-held Kashmir and later secretly shifted to Pakistan. Ali Haider Gilani was kidnapped from Multan during an election campaign on May 2, 2013. Later he was secretly transported to the tribal areas and now he is reportedly in Afghanistan.
Yusuf Raza Gilani has had a telephonic conversation with his son some days back, his first contact with Jr Gilani in six years. The sources claim that apparently the latest breakthrough was made soon after the visit of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) delegation led by Asif Ali Zardari, former President of Pakistan, to Kabul along with Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and other party leaders. In Kabul the delegation not only met with the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah but also had a meeting with former Afghan President Hamid Karzai. They had assured Asif Ali Zardari and Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani of their complete support for the release of Gilani’s son.
The sources claim that on his return from Kabul Yusuf Raza Gilani had a meeting with Army Chief General Raheel Sharif but this correspondent could not get the details of that meeting. The sources claim that after these high profile meetings, on May 25 Yusuf Raza Gilani got a chance to speak to his son on phone. In this 8-minute call AQIS conveyed its demands to Yusuf Raza Gilani through Ali Haider Gilani. The sources claim that Yusuf Raza Gilani is trying to seek release of the two families and it also willing to pay the ransom for the release of his son.
