MANDI BAHAUDDIN: Jamaat-e-Islami central leader Hafiz Salman Butt has urged the masses to elect a sincere candidate in the NA-108 by-polls. Addressing a JI workers’ convention here on Sunday, he said that the notions of right and left had lost their identity and now the era of right and wrong had set in. Speaking on the occasion, JI information secretary Ameerul Azeem termed democracy in the country a ploy to usurp rights of the people. He urged the masses to wake up for their rights. JI ameer Saifullah Sahi, JI candidate for NA-108 Riaz Farooq Sahi and JI Punjab vice-president Azhar Iqbal Hassan, in their addresses, urged the people to support the JI in the by-election.

Target killer arrested in Sukkur

SUKKUR: Khairpur Police claimed to have arrested a target killer. ASP City Masood Bangash said that police arrested target killer Zahid Khan Pathan from the limits of Piryaloi and recovered hand-grenades and bullets from his possession.He said that the target killers during the preliminary investigation revealed that he had shot dead six policemen and seven others in Karachi.
FIR against toll plaza’s attackers registered

ISLAMABAD: Six officials of Tarnol Toll Plaza have been nominated in an FIR against them on attacking police personnel on their patrolling duty on Saturday night, police said. As many as six cops of the Islamabad Police were wounded critically when the aforementioned officials along with armed people of contractor of Islamabad Toll Plaza attacked on uniformed police personnel on ticket issue on Saturday, police said. The injured cops have been shifted to PIMS hospital in critical condition while police teams have been sent to arrest the assailants. The wounded cops of Tarnol Police Station identified as Sub-Inspector Mohammad Aslam, ASI Asim Javed, constables Tahir Rafique, Imtiaz, Ahmed Zaman and Shanraz, were on patrolling duty when the FWO people at Tarnol Toll Plaza intercepted the police vehicle and demanded money for entry ticket which turned to harsh exchange of words and ended in clash. The Toll Plaza people attacked with iron rods and batons and wounded all cops. The attackers later escaped from the scene.

PESHAWAR: The Christian community Sunday staged protest against what they called the illegal detention and registration of fake cases against their fellows in the Yohannaabad (Lahore) incident in which the mob had lynched to death two Muslims after blast near the church. The protesters condemned the burning to death of two youngsters by a Christian mob and termed it an inhuman act, but alleged that innocent people were being harassed and arrested in the case. They said the police violence and torture of innocent people should be stopped. The United Christian Movement had organised the protest to lodge complaint against arrest of the Christians. They were holding placards inscribed with slogans for acceptance of their demands. The Movement’s vice-chairman Younas Maseeh, joint secretary Farus Riaz and Sajid Yaqoob addressed the protesters. They also demanded strict action against the culprits who burnt to death two men but said innocent people should not be punished.

‘Tripartite alliance to win LG polls’

BANNU: Federal Minister for Housing and Works Akram Khan Durrani Sunday said that the tripartite alliance was formed to stop the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI’s) tsunami of obscenity and vulgarity. Speaking at a ceremony at the Jamia Nizamul Uloom here, he said that the PTI-led provincial government had failed to launch any development projects in its two years’ rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said the PTI had no plan and lacked vision to bring about any change in the existing system. The minister said the party was just trying to promote vulgarity among the youth. He said that the tripartite alliance would secure victory in the upcoming local government elections. He urged the people to vote for the candidates of the three parties’ alliance in the local government elections. Akram Khan Durrani said that all the political parties had endorsed the stance of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl on the 21st Amendment to the Constitution. He said that soon the amendment would be revoked or replaced by 22nd Amendment.
Minor killed, 11 hurt in Kurram accident

PARACHINAR: A minor was killed and 11 other passengers were wounded in a road accident in the central Kurram Agency on Sunday, sources said. The sources said that a wedding party was on way in Charkhel village when two vehicles collided with each other. As a result, a minor was killed and 11 other persons, including women and children, were wounded. The injured were shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Sadda where condition of some of the injured was stated to be critical.

Woman commits suicide in Haripur

HARIPUR: A woman committed suicide while a young man was shot dead in the district, sources said on Sunday. Muhammad Sadiq reported to the Serai Niamat Khan Police Station that his wife Shamim Bibi went out of the room at night and committed self-immolation. She was rushed to the Women and Children Hospital where she expired. Meanwhile, a 25-year-old Nazim Hussain went out of his home in Rarra village on Saturday after receiving a call from someone but did not return. His bullet-riddled was found dumped in an under-construction building of his uncle. The police registered separate cases and started investigation.

13 power thieves held in Bannu

BANNU: The officials of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) arrested 13 thieves for using electricity illegally here on Sunday, official sources said. The sources said that the Pesco officials conducted raids in Dehgan, Domail, Hussainabad, Khansuba, Ghuriwala and Shaheed Baba villages and arrested 13 consumers for using power supply illegally. They said that the power connection to 13 tube-wells being operational under the Public Health Engineering Department was disconnected for not paying outstanding amount of Rs7.38 million.

Man, woman killed in Hangu

HANGU: A man and woman were allegedly shot dead over an honour-related issue in Afghan Refugees Camp in the limits of Doaba Police Station on Sunday, sources said. The sources said that an internally displaced person from Orakzai Agency staying in Afghan Refugees Camp, Hafeezullah, allegedly shot dead his wife and her alleged paramour Shad Muhammad. The accused managed to escape while the bodies were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Hangu for medico-legal formality.

Water dispute claims two lives in Faisalabad
FAISALABAD: A water dispute in Chak 451-GB in the jurisdiction of Sadar Tandlianwala Police Station Sunday claimed two lives.According to the police, Muhammad Bashir of Chak 451-GB had a dispute with Haider Ali and others over watering of their fields. Haidar Ali along with his eight accomplices opened indiscriminate fire at the Bashir group. Bashir (40) and Muhammad Babar were killed while Muhammad Nadeem, Mudassar Ali and Muzammal Hussain sustained injuries and were shifted to a local hospital. The injured were later referred to Faisalabad due to their precarious condition.On receiving information, the police reached the spot and sent the bodies to the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital Tandlianwala for postmortem.A special police team was constituted to arrest the accused.

Three-month-old child killed in accident, parents injured

GUJRANWALA: A three-month-old child was killed and her parents were injured in a road accident in Cantonment police limits on Sunday. Saif of Noshera Virkan, his wife Nadia and daughter Fajar were on their way when a car hit their motorcycle. As a result, Fajar was killed on the spot while her parents were injured. The injured couple was shifted to the DHQ Hospital. Police are investigating.
Two minor brothers found drowned

LAHORE: Rescuers Sunday fished out bodies of two minor brothers who had drowned in a local pond a day back in Shahdara Town area. The deceased brothers were identified as Adil, 3, and Shakil, 5, sons of Shakeel of Pathan Colony, Clifton, Shahdara Town. The two brothers had gone missing and police registered a case of kidnapping against unidentified persons on complaint of the boys’ father Shakil. On Sunday, the rescuers managed to pull the bodies of two brothers out of the pond and shifted them to morgue.
Police suspected that both the brothers had accidentally fallen into the pond and went into deep waters, resulting into their death. According to officials, the pond was quite deep with no proper fencing. At the time of the incident, no guards were on duty around the pond. Later, the victims’ relatives put the bodies on Shahdara Chowk and staged a protest demonstration.

Two bike riders die in road accident

LAHORE: A 40-year-old bike rider lost his life in a road accident in Factory Area Sunday. Sajid was on his way on a bike when he lost control over steering due to over speeding and went straight into a dumper, resulting into his instant death. Yet in another incident, an unidentified bike rider died and another one received injuries when a rashly driven car hit a bike near China Park, Saggian Bridge. Meanwhile, a 60-year-old woman expired in a local hospital, two days after she was hit by an unknown vehicle in Gulberg area. The deceased was identified as Khurshid. Yet in another incident, a 40-year-old man expired in a hospital, a few hours after he received fatal injuries in a road accident in Shera Kot area.

Rickshaw driver shot dead in Lahore

LAHORE: A rickshaw driver was shot dead by unidentified bike riders in Qila Gujar Singh Sunday. The deceased was identified as Rehan Hussain of Amir Town, Harbanspura. On the day of the incident, the victim was standing outside a hotel in Qila Gujar Singh area when some unidentified persons shot him in the head. The victim’s brother Sheraz accused one Talha Butt, Asghar and Sadaf of killing him. He said the three suspected that Rehan had informed police regarding their brothel and drug business. Police shifted the body to mortuary for autopsy and registered a murder case against Talha Butt, Asghar and Sadaf.

Three of a family die of suffocation
SIALKOT: Three members of a family died of suffocation near here Sunday. Zardar Khan, 65, his brother Muhammad Mushtaq, 55, and his son Ayaz Mushtaq, 17, fell into a well in Bina village. As a result, all of them died of suffocation in the well caused by poisonous gases. Locals and Rescue 1122 were busy in fishing out the bodies from the well.
