SUKKUR: ATC Court awarded two-times life imprisonment on Thursday to five under-trial prisoners.Reports said the ATC judge Khairpur, after scrutinizing evidences and other recorded statements, awarded two-times life imprisonment with Rs0.2 million fine to each of the five UTPs, including Riaz Abro, Aijaz, Niaz, Ghulam Asghar and Abdul Qadir Abro in the case of the killing of Noor Muhammad Abro. Reports said the accused had shot dead Noor Muhammad Abro in 2012 in the limits of Tando Masti.

World Wish Day at KSE
KARACHI: Marking World Wish Day with other countries, Make A Wish Foundation Pakistan started the day by ringing the business bell at Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE), says a press release.KSE President Nadeem Naqvi welcomed the sick children and said this was the first time in the history of KSE where the ailing children of the Foundation rang the business bell.Founding president of Make A Wish Foundation Pakistan thanked the KSE president and his team for inviting the children and organising the event which would create awareness about the World Wish day.Later, Make A Wish Foundation Pakistan organised a wish granting ceremony and granted the wishes of 25 ailing children.The Consul General of Switzerland Emil Wyss was the chief guest on the occasion.

Two railways bogies burnt to ashes

LALAMUSA: Two bogies of a passenger train were burnt to ashes and others were damaged by a fire on Thursday. The bogies were parked near the railway station in front of Mohallah Islampura. Suddenly, a fire erupted in them on Thursday afternoon. People from nearby localities including Chakar Mohallah, Karachi Mohallah, Karimpura, Islampura reached the spot after seeing the bogies on fire. Fire engines from TMA Lalamusa tried to put out the fire but failed. Two bogies and Karachi guard room were completely burnt, while flames also damaged other bogies. Costly items including copper, fans and fibre sheets were stolen from these bogies after they caught fire.

Millers to stage sit-in in Faisalabad on 5th

FAISALABAD: After failure of talks with the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) on reduction in loadshedding duration, representatives of the Industry and Powerloom Owners Association have announced to stage a sit-in at the Chowk Abdullahpur on May 5. The powerloom owners said that the millers and their workers would take part in the sit-in and vowed to continue their protest till the acceptance of their demands, which included maximum four-hour daily loadshedding. During the PPP regime, the loadshedding duration was six hours, but now the PML-N government had increased the duration to 10 hours, they added.

KP NAB arrests employee on corruption charges

PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Thursday arrested Gul Khatab, an employee of the NAB, on the charge of corruption. According to a statement from NAB, Gul Khatab allegedly used the name of NAB and took bribes from people for getting them favours in cases against them in the Bureau. It said the arrest warrants of the accused were issued by director general NAB, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The accused will be produced before the accountability court today for obtaining his physical remand in NAB custody.

Woman seeks arrest of killers of husband, daughter

BANNU: A woman on Thursday asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister and the provincial police chief to arrest the killers of her husband and daughter. Speaking at a press conference, Sartaj Bibi said that Usman, Khalid and Mahtab allegedly killed her husband Dilnawaz, three days back over a property dispute while her daughter, Khansa Bibi, was killed in 2012. She asked the chief minister and IGP to take action against the police for not registering her complaint against the accused and get them arrested.

Mustafa Kanju’s remand extended

LAHORE: An Anti-Terrorism Court on Thursday sent Mustafa Kanju, son of former Minister of Foreign Affairs Siddique Kanju and his four guards, to jail on a further seven-day judicial remand, for the killing of a 17-year-old orphan boy and injuring another. The prime accused, Mustafa Kanju, and his guards including Ikram Ullah, Asif, Saad and Sadiq were produced before the court. An investigation officer pleaded the judge to give him more time to submit the interim challan. The court after hearing the plea of the IO extended judicial remand of the accused. Kanju was arrested after a case was registered against him under 7-ATA and Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code. He was accused of killing Zain, a 16-year-old orphan, and injuring Hussain, 18.

Two killers awarded death sentence

ARIFWALA: Additional Sessions Judge Shakir Hassan on Thursday awarded death sentence and Rs 200,000 fine to Khuda Bakhsh alias Dana in a murder case registered with the Qaboola police. According to the prosecution, the convict had killed his mother-in-law Sain Bibi over a domestic dispute. Meanwhile, the same judge awarded death sentence and Rs 200,000 fine to Imtiaz alias Sobi in a murder case registered with the Arifwala Sadr police. The prosecution said that the convict had killed Ghulam Mustafa over an enmity sometime ago.

Kidnapped man reaches home in Jamrud

JAMRUD: A man, who was kidnapped last month, reached his home in Mullagori area of Jamrud Tehsil, Khyber Agency, on Thursday, sources said. The sources said that Nasim Khan, resident of Murad Dhand, was kidnapped by unidentified persons last month and ransom was demanded from his family for his safe release. The sources said that the kidnapped man reached home. However, it could not be known whether or not his family paid any ransom.

Milkman’s bullet riddled body found

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The bullet-riddled body of a milkman, who had went missing a day earlier, was found dumped in the limits of the University Police Station, police said on Thursday. They said that Allah Bakhsh, a resident of Kacha Malana in Dera Ismail Khan, had mysteriously disappeared a day earlier. They said that his body was found dumped in the Aara area. The police lodged a case against unidentified accused and started an investigation.

Killer gets death sentence

TOBA TEK SINGH: Additional District and Sessions Judge, Israrzada Khan, on Thursday awarded death sentence to an accused in a murder case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 200,000 on the killer and acquitted his wife giving her benefit of the doubt. Accused Shahid’ sister (N) had eloped with deceased Mukhtar. Shahid and his wife had shot dead Mukhtar on 2011.
Boy, mother killed in road accident

TOBA TEK SINGH: A boy and his mother were killed and two others injured in a road accident near Kamalia on Thursday. A car hit a motorcycle on Chichawatni-Kamalia Road. As a result, motorcyclist Suleman and his mother Perveen Bibi were killed on the spot while their relative Sultan and four-year-old Sufian were injured. The injured family members were shifted to the Kamalia THQ Hospital from where the doctors referred Sultan to the Toba DHQ Hospital.

Impostor booked in Chunian

CHUNIAN: A case was registered against an impostor who introduced himself as the political secretary to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and extorted Rs500,000 from an advocate. M Asghar Ali Gill, advocate, told the police that impostor Arif got Rs500,000 from him under the pretext of arranging a job in the government department.

CTD arrests militant

PESHAWAR: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Thursday arrested a militant carrying head money of Rs500,000 during an action in Peshawar. According to the officials of the CTD, the alleged militant Malik Noor, son of Shermat, a resident of Bara in Khyber Agency, was arrested during an action in the limits of Matani Police Station in Peshawar. The action was carried out on the information of an intelligence agency. He was said to be wanted to the police in terrorism cases and belonged to a banned militant organisation. The CTD official said the provincial government had placed a head money of Rs500,000 on the militant.
