Upper storey gutted as school catches fire
KASUR: The upper storey and a computer lab of the Government Girls High School, Allahabad, on Sunday gutted completely after the school’s building caught fire.More than 200 girls were taking eighth class Urdu paper exams when the school’s building caught fire when high tension wires collided due to heavy wind and gutted the upper storey of the building.

Three dacoits killed in encounter
FAISALABAD: The Sadar police claimed to have killed three dacoits in an encounter near Chak No 237-RB Khaddian Warraichan on late Saturday night. Police told the media here on Sunday that, on information, a police team encircled the dacoits who were looting passersby near the Bypass towards Roshanwali Jhall.The accused opened fire on policemen which was returned by the team and during an encounter three accused received bullet injuries while two others fled. Police tried to shift them to hospital but two of them died instantly while the third died at the hospital. Police recovered three pistols, two magazines and 30 rounds and shifted the bodies to the mortuary of the Allied Hospital for autopsy. The accused were identified as Jahanzaib, Ali Haidar and Dilawar who were wanted by the police in a number of cases. Police have registered a case.

188 suspects arrested in Peshawar, 51 Afghans detained
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police during ongoing search operation throughout the province against criminals and anti-social elements has rounded up 188 suspects and recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition from their possession.
The KP police conducted search operation in various areas of the province and recovered 36 arms and ammunition of different kind and 418 rounds of different bore. During the operation, 462 houses and 297 hotels were checked and 21 cases were registered against the violators. During snap checking on 126 check points, 257 suspects were arrested and 3 arms of different kind and 8 cartridges of different bore were recovered.

Three motorcycle lifters arrested in Lahore
LAHORE: Bhatti Gate police have arrested three motorcycle lifters here on Sunday. During interrogation, the gangsters confessed 21 incidents of motorcycle lifting committed in different areas of the city. SPO Lower Mall Naveed Arshad led a special team which arrested the accused, Imran, and his two accomplices, Yousaf and Sufi Khan. DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf announced cash and commendatory certificates for the team.

Infant snatched from mother
KHANEWAL: A two-month boy was snatched from his mother by motorcyclists here on Sunday. According to police, Nasreen, wife Muhammad Hussain, was going home carrying her two-month-old son Abdullah when she was intercepted by a man and two women on a bike near Rangranwali town. The accused had covered their faces with masks and snatched the boy from Nasreen and fled. Police registered an FIR and started investigation.

Body found in Quetta
QUETTA: Police recovered body of a man in Irrigation Colony near Sariab area of provincial capital on Sunday. According to police, on a tip off, a police party reached the site and took the body into custody which was dumped near Irrigation Colony after killing. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital’s morgue for identification. Police have registered a case.

Three kidnappers arrested in Karak

KARAK: The three alleged kidnappers were arrested and arms were recovered from their possession during a raid here on Sunday, official sources said.They said the police raided a house near the Toll Plaza and arrested Shahidullah, Ameer Nawaz and Zafar Khan and recovered weapons from them.The sources said the accused were involved in kidnapping and killing of the guard of the sessions judge, Islamabad.They claimed that the accused had demanded ransom from the family of the guard.The police shifted the accused to the Karak Police Station for interrogations.

696 polio-refusal cases reported in Lakki
LAKKI MARWAT: About 696 refusal cases were reported in the district and the Health Department was trying to control the situation, an official said on Sunday. District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Nek Nawaz Khan said that more than 3,000 refusal cases were reported last year in the district.

45 marble factories sealed in Buner

DAGGAR: Following the directives by the Peshawar High Court (PHC), the district administration in Buner sealed 45 marble factories here on Sunday, official sources said.The sources said the team comprising Special Magistrate Iqbal Khan Wazir, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ali Rehman, Station House Officer Khursheed Anwar, representative of Environment Department Essa Khan and heavy contingent of police reached the factories.An official said the step was taken after the PHC’s verdict against the factories for their poor management and posing threat to the environment.
