ISLAMABAD: Investigation agencies probing the killing of rights activist Sabeen Mahmud who was gunned down in Karachi on Friday are working on the line that she has been killed by the elements who are desperate to malign security organisations of the country.
Sabeen was killed when she was returning from a seminar where the cause of Balochistan’s separatists was highlighted. She was a social activist and wasn’t a source of threat for any security outfit. She was also target of criticism by the sympathisers of Islamabad’s Lal Masjid Khateeb Maulana Abdul Aziz and this aspect would be probed as cause of assassination during the investigations. Highly placed sources told The News here Saturday that the services offered by the armed forces for provision of assistance in her murder probe indicates that no agency is involved in the heinous offence as the armed forces are wholeheartedly prepared to cooperate in the task of investigations.
The hurling of threats to her before her killing could also be handiwork of the elements working against the country and security agencies, the sources reminded.
