KARACHI: Director General (DG) Rangers, Major-General Bilal Akbar, has said the satisfactory conclusion of by-election in Karachi’s NA-246 has proved that the paramilitary force is not a threat to any political party.
Credit should be given to the Rangers and police forces for the peaceful by-election in NA-246, said Major General Akbar as he visited the FB Industrial Area on Friday. The DG Rangers said the paramilitary force had not ordered a ban on pillion riding in Karachi on the day of the by-election in the city’s NA-246 constituency. “We only appealed to citizens to carry their ID cards,” he said, adding that people were told that copies of their national identity cards would also be acceptable.
He said any proof of bad attitude or use of obscene language by Rangers personnel should be brought to fore so that action could be taken against them. The DG said investigation has been completed into killing of a political worker in Azizabad, adding that no worker of any political party had been killed by a bullet fired by Rangers. He said dozens of criminals had been arrested from Lyari, and that the PPP never objected to the Lyari operation.
