Karachi: A man strangulated his son and daughter late on Saturday night in the Garden area of the city and threatened to commit suicide if anybody, including the police, tried to approach him, Garden police said.

The incident took place in Jabbar Compound, Fawara Chowk in the Garden police limits, where a person identified as Munaf strangulated his 10-year old son Hammad and three-year old daughter Ayla.

“Apparently, the man killed his children due to poverty and unemployment. He is now on the roof of his apartment building and threatening to jump if somebody goes near him” ASP Garden Ghulam Murtaza Tabassum told The News.

Bodies of Hammad and Ayla were taken to Civil Hospital Karachi where doctors said they were strangled to death.

According to latest reports, the Garden police arrested Munaf and shifted him to the police station amid attempts by locals to beat up the accused.
