Parking mafia
By our correspondents
November 29, 2015
The roads around Zaibunissa Street have been taken over by a parking mafia that has supposedly been awarded a tender for operating the parking system in the area. A sizeable park near the complex building has been conveniently converted into a parking lot. As a result, people have to pay either Rs20 per hour, Rs100 per day or Rs1100 per month as parking charges. These people have not provided any details about the mechanism through which they formulated these prices. To ensure ‘smooth’ parking and subdue any objections by drivers, they have their people present to ensure compliance.
The street authorities have not raised any objections and the police have also been of no help. The government should take action to prevent them from continuing their illegal operations.
