Bertrand Russell once said that “Collective fear stimulates herd instinct and tends to produce ferocity toward those who are not regarded as members of the herd.” The recent rage and unmanliness displayed by the extremist herd of Shiv Sena speaks volumes of their attitude and feelings towards us. This is not the first time that our delegates have been attacked and our artistes jeered and sneered at by a handful extremists. Proper security could have avoided such untoward incidents but what to speak of security when the Indian administration and extremists are hand in glove with each other.
The ICC should show some spine and ban international cricket in India till these extremists are tackled. Alternatively, all cricket-playing countries should refuse to play cricket in India. Sports-loving countries should make it clear that chauvinism will not be tolerated at any cost and sports should be free from all sorts of prejudices.
