The condition of Askari Park built on the Old Sabzi Mandi land is dismal. At the time of its inauguration, former president Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf termed it a gift to the people of Karachi. It indeed was.
Now one hardly finds proper lighting, seating arrangements, green lawns, etc. This reflects the general neglect of public places in the city. Another park built on the land around the Quaid’s mausoleum has suffered the same fate. One only hopes for better days to return.
