This refers to the letter, ‘Onion politics’ (September 24) by Air-Cdr (r) Muhammad Yaqoob Khan. There is a difference in the democracy being practised in India and the one we have in our country. And this difference lies in the political process followed by the two countries. In India, political leaders earned their place in politics through a legitimate democratic process. On the other hand our rulers are largely the products of dictatorships. They were created, nurtured and placed in positions of power by dictators.
In the process, genuine political leaders were either eliminated or sidelined. It is because of such illegitimate rulers that we are surviving on bailout packages from donor agencies. These rulers win elections through rigging and by using the looted wealth of the country. This is the difference.
