Despite anti-drug abuse laws and efforts of the Anti-Narcotics Force, the number of people using drugs have not only increased but has also found its way into schools, colleges and universities, making it a major health threat. One major contributory factor for drugs addiction is the use of tobacco in different forms. There is thus a strong need for strict enforcement of the Anti-Smoking Ordinance-2002.
If CADD/ITP officials check hotels, schools/colleges, offices and public transport places, they will find that anti-smoking laws are being blatantly violated to the discomfort of those who are non-smokers. It is requested that the CADD and ITP use modern technology and assign mobile numbers on which all violations of the anti-smoking laws can be reported by individuals. These numbers should be manned by responsible and dedicated officials who should take prompt action and bring violators to book. This one measure can have a positive effect and will go a long way in not only making Islamabad a smoke-free city but also help reduce drug abuse.
