The interior minister’s directive to Nadra to put in place an online CNIC application system is a good step and should be implemented as soon as possible. Many people, especially the elderly, sick and special people, will benefit from this initiative.
Old and sick people face great hardships due to the extraordinary rush of applicants to Nadra offices. Even if the Nadra staff takes care of them as senior citizens they have to wait for their turn to fulfil the procedure. With this online facility people who have already been issued CNICs should be given priority. If they apply for renewal or some amendments to their CNICs they should not be asked for any more formalities to fulfil because their particulars are already available with Nadra. Current rules dictate that those attaining the age of 60 or after the expiry of CNICs have to renew their documents. All such people, if unable to apply online, should be provided Nadra’s mobile facility then.
