The 25km long Islamabad Expressway from Zero Point to Rawat will not only reduce travel time by less than half but will also ensure uninterrupted traffic flow on one of the main arteries of the federal capital.
According to media reports, the expressway will be built in three phases: from Zero Point to Faizabad Chowk (4kms), from Faizabad to Koral Chowk (8.5kms) and the 12.5 kms final phase from Koral Chowk to the GT Road. It is recommended that work on the project may be undertaken from the GT Road to Airport Chowk first because this portion of the road is in a bad condition. This is the portion where traffic moves at a snail’s pace and people experience terrible traffic jams. Being a two-lane road, the movement of heavy vehicles slows down the traffic. The Zero Point to Airport Chowk upgrade can be undertaken in the second or third phase.
