This refers to the news report, ‘Fake degree business – Pak company Axact cons billions: NYT’ (May 19). While the authenticity of the allegations levelled in the report are yet to be investigated, the unfortunate reality is that our investigating agencies were either complicit in this crime, or were incompetently unaware of serious crimes and violations of Pakistani laws.
What purpose do these state-funded institutions serve other than being a burden on taxpayers or serving only to regularise such blatant irregularities? Why should it be the fate of this unfortunate country that its state agencies always fail to implement laws and rules to check such irregularities? How is it possible that the FBR, the SECP, the FIA, the IB, etc, were all unaware of vast irregularities allegedly being committed by the organisation, whose CEO paid under Rs100 in tax in 2014? What bigger damage can be inflicted upon our country than destroying its human resource and bringing into disrepute all our expatriates employed abroad?
