The residents of Sector 11-A, North Karachi, are currently facing six hours of loadshedding plus the additional hours of breakdowns on account of unscheduled trippings or faults. This has become a regular feature in our lives despite our area being an upscale region. Time and again, we have complained and requested the power authorities to solve this problem but the situation remains the same.
On the other hand, our neighbouring Sector 11-B comes under the ‘no loadshedding zone’. The reason K-Electric has given for this prolonged loadshedding is its ‘rule of recovery’. As per rules, our locality comes under the ‘low recovery areas’. But this is because ‘slum areas’ connected to our sector have illegal power connections, resulting in low recovery of dues. There are a few questions for K-Electric: Whose responsibility is it to ensure maximum recovery – K-Electric or ours? Why do people have to suffer because of the incompetence of the authorities? Is it my fault if my house is located in a low recovery area and I pay my bills on time? Why is K-Electric treating law-abiding citizens and criminals alike? Why does K-Electric not compensate the hours consumed in unabated, long faults by decreasing loadshedding?
