Over the past few years, the captain of the Pakistani cricket team has been criticised on one pretext or the other. Until now, Pakistan has played three matches in the World Cup. Out of them, Misbah-ul-Haq has played two crucial innings. He has been criticised for his slow batting. This criticism is unjustified. Our team’s batting order has often failed and we need a player in the middle order who can beat off pressure and accumulate runs.
Had Misbah not been in the present eleven-member squad our team would not have been able to play the full allocated 50 overs in most of their encounters. Hats off to Misbah-ul-Haq for his good batting. It is mostly due to his batting that Pakistan often take their total to 250 runs which is a defendable score considering the strength of our bowling attack. That is exactly what happened in the game against Zimbabwe. We should support the captain as he is leading from the front. If the whole batting line-up fails, he has no option but to play defensively. Other players should be taken to task for their poor performance.
