After 9/11, the phenomenon of terrorism has changed the socioeconomic and geopolitical situation of the world. Pakistan is facing the worst form of terrorism. This has destroyed the country’s social structure, ruined economic development and fractured its political system. We have not only lost precious lives but, according to official estimates, have suffered a loss of billions of dollars as well. The major areas that have been affected are: law and order on which we have spent more than ever over the years, rehabilitation of the IDPs and investment that has nosedived and hit our growth targets.
Agriculture is the main source of revenue in most terrorism-affected areas, including Fata and KP. Swat has been a major contributor to agriculture revenue, but due to the insurgency agriculture production has suffered a lot. Despite hitting setbacks on all fronts – economic and political – the international community still holds Pakistan responsible for terrorism.
