SHEIKHUPURA: A car and a truck collision early on Wednesday claimed 15 lives, including 10 schoolchildren, at the Manawala Road near here.
According to eyewitnesses and locals, a speeding car hit a truck loaded with LPG due to thick fog in the area of Manawala police station. A huge fire erupted immediately that
engulfed two rickshaws taking children to school at that time.
The tragic accident resulted in the deaths of 10 schoolchildren and five adults, including rickshaw drivers and passengers of the car. The fire also gutted five nearby shops.According to initial reports, the car belonged to Amjad Ali, a cameraman of a private news channel, a resident of Khanqa Dograan who was also in the car at that time.
Some of the dead were identified as Amjad Bhatti, Waleed Ahmed, Shazia Bibi, Hamza, Shugufta Bibi and Muhammad Afzal.The injured were ASI City police station, Sangla Hill, Sikandar Hayat, Constable Nadeem Malik, Aamer Shehzad, Shahzeb, Hammad, Farooq, Abdur Rehman, Sikandar, Shahid, Ashraf, Atta, Haider Ali, Kausar Parveen, Raza, Riaz, Muhammad Ali, Munazza, Anum, Ansar Abbas, Safiya Bibi, etc.
Rescue 1122 rushed to the spot while DPO Sheikhupura Jawad Tariq also reached the site of the tragedy.He told reporters that so far eight bodies had been sent to the DHQ Hospital, Nankana, and the injured were also shifted there as it was the nearest to the site of the accident.
