The Aziz Bhatti SHO and another police officer were suspended and demoted on Monday for facilitating land grabbers.
SSP East Jawed Jiskani told The News that SHO Aziz Bhatti sub-inspector Ataur Rehman and ASI Shaukat of the Mehar Ali police post had been demoted to the ranks of ASI and head constable respectively.
The official said police had arrested a group of land grabbers who were carrying out illegal construction work at Railway Society, Block-13B of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, but the SHO and the sub-inspector had released them after taking money and not filed a case against them.
On receiving a complaint, an inquiry was initiated against the two policemen and they were found guilty
Arrests
Rangers conducted a raid in Nazimabad and arrested a suspected target killer, Mohammad Khurram alias Mota.
He was taken to an anti-terrorism court which approved his 90-day preventive detention. During interrogation, Khurram confessed to his association with a militant wing’s target killing team and disclosed that he had murdered dozens of people.
He was also involved in extortion cases and ethnic clashes.
Rangers also conducted a raid in Usmanabad and after a shootout arrested Mohammad Farhan alias Funter. An ATC approved his 90-day preventive detention.
Farhan too confessed to his affiliation with a team of target killers and his involvement in several murders.
Separately, the Anti-Car Lifting Cell arrested three men believed to be involved in vehicle crimes.
SSP Irfan Ali Bahadur said an ACLC team raided a hideout in Korangi Industrial Area and after an encounter arrested Mushtaq Ahmed, Kamil alias Chathry and Jehangir Hussain. They were found in possession of pistols and three stolen motorcycles.
The SSP the three men were experts in motorcycle theft and mostly stole two-wheelers from the parking area of Korangi Industrial Area. He added that they were involved in over 50 cases of motorcycle theft.
The Special Investigation Unit arrested two suspected extortionists in Korangi.
SSP Mohammad Farooq Awan said the two extortionists, Amir Hussain and Asif Shah, were arrested after a shootout.
It was found that the two men had demanded money from a garment factory owner, Noman Naqvi, on February 3 and when he had refused, they had attacked him while he was driving in Korangi Industrial Area.
Naqvi had survived and had an FIR registered against them.
The two men were also involved in the murder of Asif Shah of Korangi police station and several street crime cases.
