General Raheel Sharif has done a great service to the country by refusing another term in office. Gen Sharif should be emulated by not only those who follow him but by the civilian hierarchy as well.
The unnecessary media debate about the chief’s extension in service is bound to fade away. Politicians are to be blamed for introducing this evil practice of granting extension to favourite officers. They used this double-edged weapon of binding a civilian/military head to the chair for their own gains as well as to defame him when it is so required.
