World urged to force India for plebiscite on Kashmir
PESHAWAR: A seminar arranged here at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University renewed the demand for a plebiscite on Kashmir to resolve the lingering issue.
A noted educationalist, academician and Director of the Pakistan Study Centre, University of Peshawar, Dr Fakhr-ul-Islam, was the keynote speaker. The faculty members and students attended the event.
The programme had been arranged by the university in connection with the Kashmir Solidarity Day which was marked recently all over the country to express support to the people of Kashmir.
Dr Fakhr-ul-Islam highlighted the genesis of the Kashmir issue which has made the people of the valley suffer and has remained an impediment to good relations between Pakistan and India.
The academician said the 3rd June Plan of 1947, Indian Independence Act and United Nations Security Council resolutions supported the principled stand of Pakistan on the Kashmir.Dr Fakhr-ul-Islam said India had no legal or moral justifications to keep Kashmir under occupation.
He said the international community should prevail upon India to agree to a free and impartial plebiscite to decide the fate of Kashmir. The Pakistan Study Centre head said there were no two opinions in Pakistan over the question of Kashmir and February 5 every year clearly testified to that fact.
