Nandipur Power Plant gets new CEO
ISLAMABAD: The government has appointed Shahid Zulfiqar Khan as the new Chief Executive Officer for the 425-megawatts Nandipur Power Plant.
After approval from the prime minister and adopting due process provided under the Public Sector Companies (Corporate Governance) Rules, 2013, the federal government has appointment his CEO of plant, a news statement issued here by the Ministry of Water and Power said.
He is a cost and Management Account and Certified Corporate Secretary, an eminent professional who has more than 30-year experience in power sector in Middle East, Seri Lanka and Pakistan. He has special expertise in power plant development and has operated large scale power plants in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
He has remained Chief Executive Officer for 13 years with second largest Power Producer in Pakistan. He remained associated with the largest independent power producer in the world, AES US Corporation for 17 years in various senior capacities.
Shahid holds various distinctions for turning around businesses in AES. He has also been associated in tariff restructuring and Wapda privatisation as USAID adviser.
In order to have professional management with broader experience, the BOD of NTPGCL initiated hiring of CFO from the market. After finalisation of job description and eligibility criteria for the position of Chief Executive Officer, advertisement was placed in press on Feb 12, 2015.
In response to the advertisement a total of 31 applications were received. Upon preliminary screening of the applications, 24 candidates were screened out and based on the evaluation criteria, 8 candidates were short listed for the interview.
The Board of Directors of Nandipur Thermal Power Generation Company Limited (GENCO-V), as per Section-5(2) of the Public Sector Companies (Corporate Governance) Rules 2013; vide Resolution No First (01) in its meeting held on 11th December, 2015 forwarded potential candidates Shahid Z Khan, Zia Imran and Ismail H Naqvi.
The Ministry of Water and Power moved a summary though establishment and Finance Divisions for approval of the prime minister under the existing rules. The prime minister approved the names of 1st ranking candidate as CEO of Nandipur Power Plant and the establishment Division issued notification accordingly.
