NBP lift CNS hockey trophy
KARACHI: NBP defeated SSGC by 2-0 to lift the 1st CNS all Pakistan hockey tournament trophy at HCP on Thursday.
NBP took the lead in the 13th minute through forward Dilbar, who is a regular member of Pakistan national team.
SSGC tried their best to pull off an equaliser but the defenders of NBP did not allow them any opportunity. SSGC got three penalty corners but failed to strike.
NBP doubled the lead in the 51st minute when international Arsalan Qadir got a pass, dodged the defenders and netted the second goal.
PIA trounced Navy in the match for the third position. The match was tied at 2-2 in the stipulated time. In the penalty shootout, PIA won by 6-3.
Both teams played outstandingly. Navy conceded lead twice but came back amazingly.
Mohammad Irfan and Mohammad Zubair scored one goal each for PIA, while Asad Aziz and Mohammad Sabir scored for Navy.
In the penalty shootout, PIA scored four goals, while Navy managed only one.
Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah distributed the trophies and other prizes among the players.
He vowed that Navy would continue supporting the national game and that this event would be organised every year.
NBP received Rs1.1 million, SSGC got Rs0.8 million and PIA Rs0.6 million.
Rashid Mahmood was declared the best player of the tournament and awarded Rs50,000. Mohammad Sabir, the top scorer of the tournament, and Mazhar Abbas, the best goalkeeper, were awarded Rs25,000 each.
