LAHORE
WWF-Pakistan and beverages companies, through their project ‘Increasing the Supply and Access to Safe Drinking Water in Lahore,’ inaugurated a third water filtration plant here in the outskirts of Lahore. The project aims at installing 15 water filtration plants in the city in order to provide clean and safe drinking water, officials said, adding that the plant was inaugurated by Rizwanullah Khan, General Manager of a beverage company and Dr Masood Arshad, Director Climate, Energy and Water, WWF-Pakistan.
Residents of the area expressed their gratitude for providing them with this facility. Rizwanullah Khan commented, “We are working towards water balance through diverse, locally focused community water projects that often grow out of the source water vulnerability assessments (SVA) conducted for each of our bottling plants. Those plants are built with the local community and often the projects we support are with local governments and other respected third-party partners. Pursuing these synergies among our source water protection and replenish programmes enable us to identify and implement projects that support the sustainability of local watersheds and communities while mitigating risks to our business.”
A water testing survey of the area was conducted prior to the installation of the filtration plant, and showed the presence of fecal coliform in the area.
The filtration plant will provide access to clean drinking water to almost 5,000 individuals daily.
