KE installs anti-theft cable in Baldia’s Gulshan-e-Mazdoor

K-Electric has successfully completed the installation work of its aerial bundle cables in Baldia’s Gulshan-e-Mazdoor which was previously infested with illegal electricity connections and hence categorised as a very high loss (VHL) area. 

This area has more than 3,000 residential and commercial plots, which have now been completely converted to aerial bundle cables (anti-theft cables).

A KE press statement said on Saturday that tge KE successfully installed 230 poles, 11 PMTs and around 1,800 new digital meters in Gulshan-e-Mazdoor for these residents. 

“The remaining residents are applying for new connections and K-Electric is catering to the needs and further installations of digital meters are under way.” 

K-Electric’s spokesperson was present on site and said that this would eventually benefit the consumers residing in this area. 

The fault/tripping ratio would substantially decrease and the voltage issues would cease to exist. He added that at first these residents showed resistance, but after the first two successful phases of installation, it was the same residents who cooperated and welcomed K-Electric’s move as they saw positive results.

On Wednesday, a KE statement had said that over 3,000 illegal electricity connections were cut off during an ongoing operation launched to purge the metropolis of electricity thieves and defaulters.

The operation was carried out in areas including Orangi Town, Korangi, Lyari, Johar, SITE, Gadap Town, Clifton, Malir, Landhi and Bin Qasim Town.

Besides disconnecting illegal residential connections, the power utility also cut off connections of commercial establishments, including a marriage hall and a plastic manufacturing factory.

The factory, located in Orangi Town, was found to have taken a 16mm connection through a hook connected to the KE’s main line, while the marriage lawn had taken a direct connection through a pole-mounted transformer (PMT).

Those found to have installed illegal cables, tampered with the meter were also penalised by being issued a theft-bill (penalty).

Around 300 connections were cut off in SITE, connections to a milk shop, a bakery and a general store were also disconnected in Gulistan-e-Johar; electricity connection to a park located in Gadap Town was also cut off.
