Rehman Malik asks Obama to share facts about his claim

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Interior Senator A Rehman Malik has written a letter to the US President Barack Obama urging him to share with Pakistan the real facts and background of the claim he made in his address to the State of Union enabling Pakistan to work out future plan of action to counter the menace of terrorism. 

Malik stated that his (Obama) address had left a deep impression on the people of the world and his comments that ‘instability will continue for decades in parts of Pakistan’, in context of the rising threat from IS (Daesh) and al Qaeda, had left a lingering concern and worry amongst the people of Pakistan and perhaps many others.

“This statement, coming from none other than the President of United States, who possesses authentic intelligence through unmatched resources, is worrying the people of Pakistan and cannot be ignored.”

Highlighting the intensity of President Obama’s statements Senator Rehman Malik writes, “We believe that any statement by a responsible person of your (President Obama) standing must duly  be supported by verified information indicating the real time threat level for parts of Pakistan to be continued for decades, as claimed by you in your address.”

In his letter, Rehman Malik put in plain words the sacrifices of Pakistan in US-led war against terrorism and said those were more than any other country of the world that included both economical and infrastructural damages and fatalities of precious lives of civilians and troops but regrettably yet they had the threat of instability for many decades.

Senator Rehman Malik wrote that Pakistan’s sacrifices  did not stop here but continuously they were sacrificing the lives of the innocent civilians and the beloved soldiers who were fighting a fierce war namely ‘Zarb-e-Azb’ against Taliban. He reminded the US president that the whole nation stood united to fight against terrorism to give a stable, peaceful and prosperous Pakistan to present and coming generations.

Referring to his letters to United Nations Rehman Malik said, “I myself have been highlighting the rising trans-border threats from Daesh/IS and other forms of terrorism, and have been emphasising the need for unified action by the UNO. Recalling him a meeting, Senator Rehman Malik told President Obama “in the capacity of Interior Minister of Pakistan, in a meeting with you in the White House, I had pointed out the urgency of a joint strategy to fight against our common enemies namely Taliban/ al-Qaeda and their related outfits but I regret to say that the international community, and particularly the allies of “War on Terror” could not develop a well-formulated hard hitting strategy against terrorism and as a consequence the terrorists kept on growing worldwide, endangering all of us.” 

Senator Malik asked President Barack Obama to utilize his efforts and influences towards establishing and strengthening of interfaith harmony.
