Aisam, Marray out of Australian Open in first round
KARACHI: Pakistan’s Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and his British partner Jonathan Marray suffered another early exit when they crashed out of the Australian Open, the first grand slam of the year, on Thursday.
Aisam and Marray, ranked 37th and 72nd, respectively, were beaten by seventh seeds Jamie Murray of Britain and Bruno Soares of Brazil 3-6, 4-6 in the first round.
Aisam hasn’t been able to achieve any success so far this year as he lost in the first round of Brisbane International and then faced first round exit in Auckland.
Aisam has played Australian Open six times in doubles and mixed doubles categories. He has failed to progress beyond the third round. Aisam and his partner Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan will face the Australian pair of Daria Gavrilova and Luke Saville in the first round of mixed doubles category in this championship.
