Since December’s local bodies elections, Sindh’s ruling party has introduced three amendments in the local government act within a month’s span. As with the rest, the amendment made today is unconstitutional and illegal and the Election Commission of Pakistan must take immediate notice.
These scathing views were expressed by senior Muttahida Qaumi Movement Dr Farooq Sattar at a press conference convened by the party after Tuesday’s assembly session.
Asserting that the changes made in the local government act after the polls were tantamount to rigging, he termed these actions a failure of the ECP and urged the commission to come out and clarify that it was just a symbolic body.
Dr Sattar added that if any amendments had to be made, they should have been introduced prior to the LG polls. “The ECP must take notice of the PPP’s actions and intervene to stop the bill before it is ratified by the Sindh governor,” he demanded.
