LAHORE: Due to the lack of processing units and cold chain, Punjab is unable to boost its exports and also suffering 35 percent post-harvest losses. China is importing meat from Vietnam who buys from Pakistan.
This was disclosed in a meeting between the Chinese delegation and Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) officials held on Friday.
A 20-member business delegation from Chinese coastal city of Weihai visited the PBIT.
The delegation comprised of Chairmen and Executives of major Weihai companies. Businesses ranged from textiles and clothing, marine food production and food processing, medical equipment and supplies, motors and power tool production to power cranes and construction machinery production and sales.
The meeting was convened by Ms. Liu Xinjuing of the Weihai Municipal Bureau of Commerce.
PBIT CEO Amena Cheema, Dr Suhail Saleem, Director Agriculture and livestock and Hassan Ali, Additional Director Business Development represented PBIT.
Weihai is located in the eastern Shandong province and is a commercial port and majorfishing center of China with a 1,000Km coastline. The province of Punjab and the Shangdong province are collaborating on multiple fronts with multiple projects in the pipeline and in implementation stage under CPEC.
